Zac Taylor Breaks Silence on Shemar Stewart’s Sudden Exit from Bengals Minicamp

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has finally addressed the unexpected departure of defensive lineman Shemar Stewart from the team’s minicamp this week, sparking curiosity among fans and media alike.

Stewart, a promising young talent signed as an undrafted free agent, had been turning heads during early training sessions with his size, athleticism, and raw potential. However, his sudden absence from Wednesday’s minicamp practice left many speculating about his status with the team.

When asked about Stewart during a post-practice media session, Taylor kept his response measured but direct. “Shemar had to step away due to personal reasons,” Taylor said. “We’re giving him the time he needs, and we’ll support him through whatever he’s dealing with. Right now, the focus is on making sure he’s okay.”

Taylor did not elaborate on the nature of Stewart’s absence but emphasized the organization’s commitment to player well-being. “These guys are human beings first. Football is important, but their health—mentally and physically—comes first,” he added.

While the Bengals are still early in their offseason program, Stewart’s absence is notable, given the high hopes surrounding his potential impact on the defensive line. A standout at the University of Miami, Stewart brought a mix of power and speed that many believed could translate well at the professional level with the right development.

As of now, there is no timetable for Stewart’s return to the team. Taylor stated that further updates will be provided when appropriate.

Though it remains unclear how Stewart’s situation will affect his standing on the roster, the Bengals appear to be taking a patient, compassionate approach—a reflection of the team culture Taylor has worked to instill since becoming head coach.
