Manager Finally Breaks Silence as Viktor Gyokeres Reacts with Fury to Man Utd Transfer Saga

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has been left “furious” amid growing uncertainty surrounding a potential move to Manchester United, with his manager finally breaking the silence to address the tension building around the Swedish star.

Gyokeres, who scored 27 goals in the Primeira Liga last season, has emerged as a key transfer target for Manchester United as the Premier League side seeks to strengthen its attack. With Anthony Martial set to depart and Rasmus Højlund still finding his feet, United is actively pursuing a proven goalscorer— and Gyokeres fits the bill.

However, negotiations have stalled in recent weeks, reportedly due to disagreements over Sporting’s €100 million release clause. According to sources close to the player, Gyokeres is growing increasingly frustrated with the delay, feeling the club is blocking a move that could define his career.

Speaking for the first time since speculation began, Sporting boss Rúben Amorim addressed the situation at a press conference on Tuesday.

“Viktor is an important player for us and of course, there’s interest. That’s normal,” Amorim said. “But I can understand his emotions. Every player wants to grow, and the Premier League is a dream for many. We’re managing things internally and trying to keep focus on what matters— the team.”

Amorim’s comments come after Portuguese media reported that Gyokeres was “fuming” behind the scenes, believing he has done enough to earn a big move after a standout season that saw him win the Liga Portugal MVP award.

The 26-year-old striker joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 for a reported €20 million, and has since transformed into one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards. His explosive pace, clinical finishing, and high work rate have made him a nightmare for defenders— and an ideal fit for Erik ten Hag’s system.

Manchester United, under new sporting director Dan Ashworth, is understood to still be in contact with Gyokeres’ representatives, but no formal bid has been tabled as of yet. Whether the Red Devils will meet Sporting’s valuation remains to be seen.

As the summer window heats up, all eyes will be on Lisbon to see whether Gyokeres’ frustration pushes the deal over the line— or if Sporting stands firm once again.
